A Little Bit About Me...

I have earned two degrees. At Georgia Southern University I recieved a B.S. in Nutrition/Food Sciences. While in Statesboro, ga completing my studies I served as an after school tutor for elementary students in the Bulluch County after school program. I recently graduated from Sanford Brown Institute in Atlanta, GA where I earned a degree in Diagnostic Ultrasound Technology. My ultimate goal is to be able to provide nutritional guidance to pregnant mothers in addition to being an ultrasound professional. I have a talent for oral and written communication. In conclusion, I think that I can still be successful in teaching. I however, need to find what area that I can be most successful at. I think that with my non-traditional training and experience, that a similar position would give me the opportunity to be most successful. One thing that I have thought a great deal about these past few weeks, is that I am entering middle age and must be a success at something. I graduated cum laude from Baylor University, in May 2009, with a bachelor's in Professional Writing. My G.P.A. was 3.8 on a 4.0 scale. During my time at Baylor I discovered a love for history, and graduated one class short of a history minor. I worked as an editing transcriptionist at Baylor's Institute for Oral History. From very early on I have been drawn toward teaching. As a student I was a tutor for many of the classes I took. I tutored Chemistry I, Beginner and Intermediate Algebra as well as a number of Accounting classes. When I graduated I immediately began looking for positions that would enable me to teach. I was very lucky to be offered a position as an Adjunct Professor at Friends University in Wichita, Kansas. I have held that position since January, 2010 and I love it!

Since I've been tutoring I've helped around 50 students individually and have developed different teaching styles to suit different students. I am aware that each person learns material in a different manner so the teaching style must be adapted to suit their individual needs. I am patient and friendly and more than capable of explaining material so that students are able to grasp it.
