A Little Bit About Me...

I am a retired statistician, with degrees in physics, aeronautical engineering and business. The following is a summary of my tutoring experience: As a student at M.I.T., I designed and taught a 6-week class on "Airplanes and Space Flight" to area high school students at "M.I.T. High School." When my sons were in middle school, I designed and taught a 6-session course on Statistics to 10 students. I provided group tutoring in pre-algebra and algebra to students at a private school in Virginia. I tutored math and physics at The Tutor Center in Loveland, the Larimer County Workforce Center, and the Thompson School District. I will be teaching an enrichment course on statistical literacy to senior citizens in Larimer County.

I’ve never bought into the argument that some kids just can’t do math. There is plenty of truth that some learn math much quicker and easier than others, but with a good work ethic and plenty of encouragement all kids are capable of learning these sciences. I feel the most important thing to do as a teacher is to stay positive, and try to somehow relate the math problems to real life situations. When correcting a student, it’s vital to carefully choose your words, for a harsh response will demoralize the student’s spirit and desire to learn.
As a recent CSU-Pueblo graduate with a mathematics major and a double minor in both physics and economics, I feel I have plenty of education for this position.
