A Little Bit About Me...

I have loved English since I was in middle school. I went to college with the desire to graduate with a degree in English Education, but realized (after almost three years in this program) that the education program at my school was completely disorganized. I decided to drop education and pursue a degree in solely English with a special interest in literature. I have also starred in two plays that my church put on- one that required only actions and another that had a multitude of lines and musical sections. As for Sign Language, I have an aunt who was born deaf. Because of that, I started learning simple signs before I could talk. I am by no means an interpreter, but I can carry on full conversations and aid in the tutoring of students who want to learn.

My comments on tutoring Drama : I was very involved with theater in high school and learned a lot about acting and auditioning.

I am currently an English major, specifying in creative writing, at Virginia Tech. In high school, I took both of the offered AP English courses and passed with a 4 on both. In college, almost every class I have taken has been English-oriented, with regards to either literature or writing. When it comes to helping others, I have been editing friends' papers some in high school and multiple times weekly in college. I am able to find what they are doing wrong and constructively advise ways to fix their problems with writing.
I like to see examples of what the person is having difficulty with in order to pinpoint problems and then work on them from there.

I am a creative teacher, meaning that I assess the individual and do not have an agenda that I adhere to. Normally, I am able to advance a child a grade level in reading with three months of tutoring and reinforcing homework, during the summer. Children's church is where a year of my experience comes from. I would guide a group of children during the service and would spend individual time with those who wanted to brush up on their reading and writing. Education has always been one of my greatest facinations. I achieved a BA in English grammars, a MLA in creative writing, and fifteen credits towards a PhD in literature and literary criticism. I discovered the writing center at my undergraduate university and became a tutor immediately. I found that I was in a position to learn just as much at the students I tutored.
