I currently work full time as an administrative assistant at a Yeshiva Torat Emet, a private school in Houston. I tutor in the evening, and on weekends. I have tutored AP Calculus and 7th grade math for The Math Coach in Houston, TX. I previously worked as a Technical Writer for Brown Technical Publications.
I use a Socratic method whereby the student is encouraged to think about the math problem and generate suggestions about how to characterize it. Once the student's mind has been stretched a bit, I begin adding hints that direct the student's thought process in the direction of the solution.

I think it takes a lot for one teacher to reach all of types of students who are all at different levels of interest in the subject being taught as well as at different levels of understanding.
