My comments on tutoring Reading Comprehension : How much of what your child reads does he/she really understand? ask your child to read a simple story and then ask your child to put it in sequencial order.

I believe that a big part of teaching is listening and observing. Not every student learns the same way, so it is important to be patient and try to understand what works best for the student. In many cases, examples are helpful in learning. Examples that are tailored to a specific student (e.g. drawing correlations to cooking for measurements, or sports for averages) can be a great basis for understanding concepts.
