Math, Science & Microsoft Excel tutor

I have two technical-college degrees, I worked my way through both of them being a math tutor, and have used math and science in some way in every job I've ever held. As for my "teaching style", as everyone knows, it helps enormously just to have another person to work with, ask questions of, and generally talk things through. And since Im not a professional teacher, Im mostly a working tech--maybe I can help you see the connections between the abstract science & math the way its taught in school, and how that knowledge actually applies in the workplace (and in life.)
On-the-job math is almost always done using Microsoft Excel, so I can show you how to do almost anything on a spreadsheet. I believe that in order for students to obtain knowledge, they must develop some level of interest in the subject. As a teacher, I try to understand the student's mind in order to present the material in such a way that it will fit together with the student's preexisting knowledge. If a student is passionate about sports or video games, I try and use examples and metaphors from those respective areas within the lessons. Students must to be shown rather than told why a subject is important, and I believe that effective learning happens when teachers build on the knowledge base that students have already developed experientially throughout their lives.
