I have worked as an elementary school teacher for 7 years. I have been fortunate enough to teach grades 1, 2, 3, and 4. In my experience I have found that children build confidence through small successes. My philosophy is to set maintainable goals allowing students to meet them frequently building confidence and motivation.
I am structured yet kind. Kids need to feel a connection to their teacher in order to give 100%. I believe that children learn best when the material is most tangible to them. When teaching or tutoring, I make a huge effort to incorporate the students' names into math problems. I make it my goal to find out as much as I can about the students, and then put them in those environments in an imaginative way in some sort of math problem.
