I'll explain it the way you need me to - gchang327@gmail.com

I'm currently a student at Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota and I've covered many subjects in my 15 years of education. I've learned many of them well enough to teach them to my younger sister, who has ensured I review every subject two years after I complete it, rather than forget it forever. I have also helped many of my classmates understand various concepts as we learned them, which allowed me to improve my own understanding and my ability to explain things in ways that differed from the ways that didn't work coming from teachers.
I specialize in understanding individual challenges and struggles and adapting my teaching and providing clarifying examples. My explanations are thorough and enhanced by my focus on listening to people.

More About This Tutor...

I have experience as a tutor at an international boarding school. I was a math tutor and helped students with the three levels of mathematics which are offered as subjects for the International Baccalaureate program: mathematical studies, standard and higher level mathematics. Due the variety of levels of mathematics which was taught at my high school, my experience as a tutor has helped me learn how to find different approaches to explaining the material. Working with students with different backgrounds in mathematics, answering their questions and helping them with a variety of problems has been a great way to master the material and to become comfortable with dealing with different levels of mathematics. Over the last academic year I have been working as a volunteer for Project for Pride in Living in Saint Paul. I have been working with elementary school students to help them with ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I believe any subject is simple – but sometimes you may need someone to show you the way. This is one of my top motivations to appreciate tutoring. In my opinion, people have different learning styles. Consequently, I utilize different methodologies to explain concepts and to resolve problems. My teaching philosophy revolves around the Chinese axiom “Give a man a fish and you have fed him once. Teach him how to fish and you have fed him for a lifetime ".
I’m a humble and dedicated tutor. I hold a BA in Economics and an MSc in Economics [Development Policy Analysis] both from Mekelle University. I have over 5 years of college level teaching experience at Dilla University.Specifically, I offered courses such as linear algebra, statistics, introduction to economics, microeconomics and macroeconomics to undergrad students.

No pain, no gain. Learn, progress, and explore.

I am from South Korea and have been studying in America for 4 years. During 4 years, I was struggling to learn English and studying hard to follow my classes. As a result, I learned the efficient way of studying English(useful for people who are from other countries) and maintained A- grade during my high school. I taught Korean students who needed English help and American students who needed math help(especially for ACT math). I got 29 ACT overall score and 33 ACT math and 28 English ACT. Studying at St. Olaf College, I explored the joy of teaching. As a native Korean speaker, I taught American friends who are interested in Korean culture and Korean. During my freshman year at St.Olaf, I maintained A- grade and got a dean's list for the second semester. I enjoy teaching in general and understand the struggle of learning. Especially, math is a definitely challenging subject and somet ... read more

I love helping people learn. I belive that everyone can learn something new its just a matter of if they want to or if they dont understand something taking a step back and asking for help. My goal is to help people understand what they are doing so that they can repeat it at a later time without any help.
I enjoyed helping my siblings with topics that they needed help with while going through school. I have earned my BA in Economics with a minor in Finance. I currently work as a financial advisor. This has enabled me to gain an understanding of many areas of math.

First, I love helping people learn. I strive to show students and people that chemistry, math and science is all about a thought process and is something that everyone can learn. Teaching sciences is about helping and showing students how to approach the problems, and problem solve not to just solve problems individually. I also believe in using and finding many methods/examples to find how the student learns best.
I have extensive experience in teach chemistry to students. In the past while at the University of Wyoming I had extensive one on one tutoring sessions with both college students and HS students (AP students). I have also tutored in math, and physics in the past also.

As a chemist I earned my associate degree and bachelor degree in teaching chemistry and mathematics. I was a teacher for about 10 years in Ethiopia since 1996 at different levels of education, which is from middle school to college instructor. After I came to United State of America in 2007, I sent my document to educational credential evaluators and they evaluated and gave me equivalent bachelor degree in teaching chemistry at high school in America. After that I am teaching physics and chemistry in high school for the last two years.

Education has to be interactive to be effective. I try to apply a Socratic approach when I work with students - to not provide answers but to draw out answers from the student by directed questioning. In the areas that I am competent in (physics into the undergraduate levels, and mathematics through the calculus level), I believe that understanding principles is what enables success. These fields require the development of physical and numerical intuition and pure memorization of facts is rarely successful. Such intuition is acquired through problem solving in conjunction with discussion of the topic.
As a grad student I did a great deal of lab teaching and physics tutoring as part of my teaching assistantship. I also taught a semester of undergraduate astronomy at both the University of St. Thomas and at Normandale Community College near the end of my graduate school years. ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I am a graduate of St. John's University in Collegeville, MN, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in mathematics. The education I received along with three years of experience as a college level calculus teacher's assistant give me the tools necessary to be an effective tutor in the field of mathematics. I have a passion for learning, as well as a passion for helping others achieve their educational goals.
Since I am a visual learner, whenever applicable I like to visually bring the material to life. It is important to me that the student understand the concepts and be able to convey that understanding without having to refer to the textbook. With this in mind, I will go through the concepts with the students and follow that up with asking them to explain everything back to me. I have found that one of the best ways to learn a subject is to teach that subject. I learned far more i ... read more

I believe that each child has their own special style of learning in which they succeed the best at. When I tutor students I take the time to get to know each student on an individual basis and as a unique person. I make it a priority to determine their learning style and use that to implement a plan. I try and understand the reason they are having problems in their studies and then execute a plan in which they can succeed. I create study guides, review questions, and sample test questions for the students as well. In addition, a tutor can be a positive role model in student's lives and serve as a mentor and can be a person who the students can count on to answer questions.
As a student I enjoyed school and learning and therefore went on after high school to obtain a B.S in Biology. I have always enjoyed science, math, and writing and enjoy helping others in these subjects a ... read more

My teaching style is one of real life applications, fun, and making it understandable. For example, when discussing slope, we can study downhill skiing or rooftops. When solving equations, I approach it from unraveling a number trick. I prefer to coach students on how to approach problems, and design which questions to ask themselves, rather than memorizing a list of techniques whenever possible. My funny and outgoing style blends well with all learning styles and personality types.
10 Years of teaching Math experience at the Junior High and Senior High level. I taught Basic Standards Math, Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, and ACT Test Prep. Through my Master's Coursework, I integrated the Cognitive Tutor which was a computer program that assisted with the thought process in problem solving. During my time at the University of Minnesota, I have been employed at several different tutoring organizations. First I worked with K through 6th grade age children at Village Parks. While there my focus was to educate students in different cultures and languages, through games and physical activities. From 2001 to 2002, I worked for with Minneapolis Parks and Public schools to tutor high school age to adult students in basic scholastics abilities up to more challenging subjects. My most recent position was with Upward Bound, where I worked with high school students throughout the St. Paul Public School system.
