My comments on tutoring Desktop Publishing : I have taken courses in almost all the Adobe Suite interfaces. I design t-shirts and use Adobe Products quite a bit.

I have excellent communication skills and I have taken the coursework to be a Social Studies Teacher from the University of Wisconsin-Superior. I believe that presenting material that fits one's learning style is a key to success in difficult subjects. Patience and flexibility are 2 attributes I possess and I believe is must in teaching subjects to people who's learning style do not work well with the established regimen. Everyone thinks and processes information in an individual style and I believe in trying to find that style. I am a 56 year old retiree from United Parcel Service, so I come with a maturity and perspective that is unique among educators. During my undergrad studies at UWRF, I was sponsored to become a tutor in the Writing Center on campus. There was a prerequisite practicum, but it was very hands-on learning. I worked with students from a variety of backgrounds (ESL, freshman comp, MS candidates, etc). At Metro State I participated in a semester program teaching English in Puerto Rico, for which I received the ESL certification. I also TA'd for Writing and Designing for the Web.
I am a very adaptable teacher--I can easily pick up on a student's needs and abilities, and work to their strengths in that way. I am not a 'stand and lecture' type of teacher. Students learn best by trying math skills by themselves or working with other students. I use web math applets frequently and math video clips which appeals to the digital-native students of today.
This year I taught math at Community of Peace Charter school in St. Paul, MN. I taught 3 sections of 8th grade math to a very diverse student population. Approximately 25% of the students receive ESL services outside of the math class, therefore I learned the difficulties that these students have with math vocab and context situations. As a grad student I did a great deal of lab teaching and physics tutoring as part of my teaching assistantship. I also taught a semester of undergraduate astronomy at both the University of St. Thomas and at Normandale Community College near the end of my graduate school years.
