Communications is one of my top subjects!

I have helped out several of my friends and family members, with everything from studying to hands on projects. I have been a tutor for 23 years and I have taught Adult Basic Education for 12 years. I am still continuing my education to receive a Masters degree and plan to get my PhD. I work for a community college and have done advising, enrollment, testing, phone directory, and student sevices. I have attended many professional development workshops on education.
Critical thinking skills and untraditional ways are what I focus on. However the way someone learns, I will try to set the individual up to show how they learn and work with them. My tutoring experience started my sophmore year of college, as I was attending EMU. It started in the classroom, helping out classmates, etc. From that moment, people started to ask me for a help on a daily basis. That is when study groups were created, where I would either tutor a group of people or one individual at a time on weekends. I am still tutoring some middle and high schoolers in math and science. I also tutor now college students in Spanish and French.
I can't really say I have a style since I believe in adapting to the student(s) in front of me. Everybody is unique, so I must use different techniques to convey the same message to different students. I am very patient, I try to have my student thinking with me on the journey to find the answer. I can't give the answer away otherwise that student may never learn.
