A Little Bit About Me...

I have experience working with both audio/visual learners and a kinesthetic/tactile learner. The kinesthetic/tactile learner had learning disabilities akin to ADD, but still did very well in the small group environment. I believe that children who want to learn will do so given the proper setting and sufficient time to succeed. I have very high patience for children who try hard and still struggle, but I do expect the student to give their best effort at each task.
I earned a Bachelor of Science from The Ohio State University in 1984. My subjects of passion were math and science and I enjoy working with children who struggle in those areas. I have home schooled my son through the end of 12th grade and he was ready for college freshman classes at age 15. A Little Bit About Me...

I volunteer for HOBY (Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership Seminar) every year. This program pushes facilitation, which is what I strive to do. I like to try to facilitate and push my students to ask questions and talk to me as a peer. I always try to give at least three compliments to every criticism because students are often too hard on themselves. For some reason, most of the students I have worked with have had an English teacher along the line who has made them feel "stupid." It is amazing what boosting confidence can do! I like to understand where students are coming from and what their specific needs are so I can address them in a way that best fits their learning style and experiences.

A Little Bit About Me...

I firmly believe that it is the responsibility of the teacher to find a way to present material so it is understood by the student. Too many schools criticize a child's ability to learn when the child doesn't respond to the school's one method of teaching. I enjoy finding ways to make concepts simple and fun for the child. I love to awaken in my students a fascination for subjects that they believe to be uninteresting or too hard for them.
I am a homeschooling mom of 20 years. I have homeschooled my 6 kids K through 12th grade. Three of my children have graduated my homeschool. Two of those have completed college and one is in her sophomore year. I am still teaching 3 of my kids. Over the years, I have taught every grade and every subject. Most years I have been doing both phonics and physics. Over the past year I have been tutoring kids in math and language arts.
