I am a question-answer type of teacher. I like to demonstrate, have them do, answer questions, clear up ambiguities, and then test or at least check to insure learning and understanding. I have a style of quiet, but firm expectations. I have a great amount of patience. I will do best with high school and college age students, and on occasion, with more mature middle school students.
I have been an "instructor"-teacher for over 15 years. I teach math, economics, finance, business, and management for several colleges. I have been a Boy Scoutmaster and merit bade counselor and have worked with youth for over 15 years. I have always been given very high marks as an instructor with many comments on my positive energy and help for students. I have an applied mathematics minor so I would be able to teach algebra, geometry, trig, and introductory calculus.

A Little Bit About Me...

While a doctoral student in finance, I assisted Professor David Rush in teaching Basic Finance to an auditorium of undergraduates. I had two parts to perform. I maintained office hours to meet with students who had questions or problems to help them understand what they may have missed in the challenging lectures; and I carried once a week lectures to make that week's material more interesting to those who attended. While a doctoral student in public administration, I assisted a faculty member by grading Basic Statistics papers. Subsequently, I taught four half-semesters of inferential statistics to incoming Master's level students.

I began working with children who were diagnosed with autism my first year of college (I did this for 7 years). I felt a sense of accomplishment as I watched them grow as people. I realized through these experiences that I wanted to help people learn and become accomplished. Later, I decided to student teach in graduate school. I taught three different writing courses over three years, including this past year as a part-time instructor. While I enjoyed my time teaching in a college classroom, I found myself making the most headway during conference time. In addition, I also worked as a writing tutor at MU's writing center. I try to make learning like a story. I weave real-life examples that have relevance in the lives of my students, and examples from popular culture. A Little Bit About Me...

As a Valedictorian of my 2001 high school class, I went on to the University of Colorado, Boulder to earn a bachelor degree in Accounting. This degree has allowed me to gain extensive knowledge of how to make use of math after school. Accounting, however, did not make me feel completely fulfilled in my career. I wanted to make a difference in the world and, to achieve this, I feel like I need to teach. I have an alternative teaching license in business and am seeking an endorsement in math.
