Math is one of my top subjects! I am able to teach math at all elementary levels, middle school, and for testing.

With over 20 years of tutoring experience, I am able to help with many subjects and all ages. I have worked with students from kindergarten through college in many subjects. I love teaching and working with different age groups. I believe in " Back to basis". I also believe in repetition in order to acheive their goals. My previous experience was that if we give children a concrete foundation in early age, will eventually all children can meet their potential goals. I strongly believe that I can make different children's future as well as education. I have a patient and I take my job very seriously. It is my goal to combine my skills and experience with my ability to be a compassionate, enthusiastic, intelligent teacher who will make a positive contribution.

I have been a physics and mathematics tutor for my fellow students at the University of Waterloo, in Waterloo, Ontario. Also, I served as a physics T.A. at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute before I transferred to Waterloo. Finally, I was a substitute teacher for two years at Belmont Middle School and Belmont High School, in Belmont, New Hampshire.
My teaching style is simple but effective. With mathematics and physics, the student retains an idea, with the added benefit of a solid intuition if he or she is fortunate enough to work through a problem using his or her's own insights. Guiding the student with the systematic offering of penetrating questions seems to be one of the most powerful methods to aid in the understanding of mathematical and physical phenomena.

I am a retired District Manager for Verizon. I taught High School Math for three years, then tutored high school math for four. I have recently "retired" my state certification (NH) for Secondary Education in Mathematics. I am currently an Adjunct Math Instructor at Hesser College, a division of Kaplan.
My teaching style is informal , taking the students from "where they are" to "where they should be". I have had good results tutoring and teaching students from the Middle-School through the Adult levels. My greatest satisfaction comes when math-challenged students finally "see the light".

As a valued member of the ANA faculty and team I continually worked to lift the standards and proficiency of all the students that I taught both directly and indirectly to prepare them for the rigors of high school and college. As the English Department Chair I mentored and provided leadership to the staff I supervised as well as my fellow colleagues. I earned a BS in Education as well as a Certification in TESL. During my many years of teaching I have mentored and tutored students in English, History, ESL and Study Skills (which focused on time management, organization, note taking and test taking skills as well as building self-esteem.) The hallmark of my teaching at Colby was my availability to students who needed academic help. I offered individual assistance to students during pre-arranged hours or when they simply dropped by my office. I found this type of contact with students to be particularly rewarding. My starting assumption is that any student can master any subject given sufficiently clear explanations and enough time to absorb the material. It is crucial to first find out what the student knows and what the points of confusion are. In the process, I encourage students to verbalize both their knowledge and their questions. Thus, tutoring is the opposite of lecturing and it lets students take charge of and set the pace of their own learning.

For the last three years I instructed K-12 students in environmental science and outdoor recreation programs, as the executive director of a nonprofit educational partnership. This involved designing and presenting lessons in collaboration with public school teachers. I received a Commissioner's Award from the Maine Department of Education in 2007 for my work with at-risk students. I also serve as the part-time Service Learning Coordinator for a local school district. In years past, I have also taught adult education courses in a foreign language (Norwegian) and in wilderness navigation.

A Little Bit About Me...

I enjoy teaching and use a variety of different methods. I incorporate different activities into each lesson to reinforce what we have learned. With my younger students I also incorporated a lot of music into the class that helped them with their verb conjugations, pronouns, etc. To keep the students' attention I am always keeping them moving, whether it be with an activity or just simply writing phrases on the board. I encourage them to be speaking in French constantly throughout the class.
I have been teaching at the Community College. I have students that range in age from 17 years old to 55 years old. I am enjoying teaching very much and would like to add to the teaching I do. I started teaching right out of college. Taught high school and college part time for 6 years. Left teaching for the computer business where I worked for 36 years. Retired from HP in 2001. Went back to teaching. I taught at Mount Royal Academy in Sunapee, NH for 7 years. I taught College Algebra and Pre-Calculus at River Valley Community College i Keene, presently as an Adjunct faculty member.
Most Math books recommend teaching for about half the class and then let students work some problems in class. I find this works well, it allows questions and the class becomes interactive. I encourge questions while I am introducing a subject and find it gives me a chance to use different examples to get a poinnt across. Any assignments I give outside the classroom can be addressed in the next class.

I have taught business practices for a large financial services company. I taught computer topics at a community college. I have also taught wood carving to students from age 12 to 98. It is important that they understand that learning is closely tied to their happiness in life. I find analogies to be my favorite style in making points to be learned.
