My comments on tutoring Civil Engineering : I can help with Engineering Mechanics.

Lead the student to find the right answer himself or herself if possible.
I have done private tutoring of high school students in math from pre-algebra to calculus and in other subjects. I have also home schooled adopted daughters from lower grades to high school level, including teaching English as a second language. In graduate school I was a teaching assistant in an electric machinery laboratory for non-electrical engineering majors. My own experience with standardized tests includes having taken the ACT in 1971 with scores ranging from 22 (76th percentile) in English to 31 (97th percentile) in math with a composite of 27 (93rd percentile) and having passed the GRE in 1975. Other previous experience includes 34 years experience as a communication system engineer. A Little Bit About Me...

I enjoy working with children of all ages. I enjoy children who can appreciate being challenged, wanting to learn, and children who truly want to succeed. I always strive for the best. I believe anyone can meet their potential if they are willing and able to put the time, effort, and sacrifice into what they need.
As an Engineer major, I am interested in math and science in particular. I carried a 3.85 GPA throughout college, and earned a Golden Key International Honor Society award. I believe that working hard to achieve the top grades of your class will make you successful, and a good student.

I am applying for the position that you advertised online for Tutors in Math and Science. Given my education and work experience, I would be an ideal match for this position. I began my college career at Penn State as an Education major and spent the first two years of course work studying the philosophy of education, educational psychology, current teaching trends, instructional analysis, etc.. I have always been "teaching" co-workers and employees in almost all of my positions. In my extensive professional experience, I have developed strong communication, instructional, and administrative skills.
Teaching and/or training has always been a highlight in my life. After graduation, I accepted a position as an Adult Education Specialist; counseling and interacting with adults (18-65) returning to school for their GED's. I have worked in a variety of settings including open sch ... read more

While I attended Auburn University and studied civil engineering I found myself enjoying group projects and helping other students get through the difficult curriculum. I needed some extra money my junior year of school and since I was enjoying working with other students I decided to try tutoring freshman and sophomore students in math and physics. I enjoyed it and it was rewarding when the students grasped the lesson at hand and did well on their upcoming tests.
I cannot say that I am set in any teaching style. I am green and haven’t exactly got a teaching style. I know through years of schooling and interacting with peers people learn differently and do better or worse depending on the teacher they have and that teachers style. I believe teaching methods in a tutorial environment need to be adaptive to the student. You’ll need to communicate with the student and feel him/her out ... read more

I remember thinking years ago: "What will I ever use this for?" In tutoring my children, sometimes their friends, in addition to training my employees, I strive to create excitement by showing a need and an application for new information. I tend to retain information if I have a use for the knowledge, and believe others feel the same. Ignorance is simply the lack of information, and can be corrected with the proper presentation and guidance. The challenging and most rewarding is to find the method that "clicks" with the student, and seeing the light of realization in their eyes.
Growing up the son of an English teacher, and a high school principal, education was obviously paramount in the home environment. I graduated from Indiana University with Business Degree, most of my work experience was in training and development of new employees, with a strong emphasis on demonstration, e ... read more

I have enjoyed teaching and working with many different children. The feeling of a child grasping knowledge and understanding that I have provided incredibly rewarding. I teach through a hands on approach by walking them through step by step and explaining the process in order for the child to grasp and understand the process. All children are full of potential when placed in the appropriate surrounding with people who care about their education.
I have earned a BS in civil engineering as well as an AS in general engineering along with my professional engineering license which has enabled me to gain a thorough grasp of many areas of math and science. I have taught many younger engineers the processes that were used company wide as well as how these specialized skills related to actual classroom situations and textbook references. I have also been a youth soccer coach teaching ... read more

As a civil engineer, I have taught math as a tutor at New American English School in Haiti for two years. Since I came here, I worked as a tutor at baron collier for a particular program for two years. I think that math is my domain I can definitly help anyone even at college level.
I love teaching math because it is my passion. It is part of my life. Even though people have different potential to learn but I always find a way to adapt my teaching to anyone. As a plus, I am able to inter individual life to help people understand that there is nothing difficult in math.
