I am a licensed Special Educator. I have been teaching students ages 3 to 21 in the public school system for 14 years. I am both an Early Childhood Specialist in General Education and a Special Educator for all grades. I am able to identify and remediate learning problems. I have a wealth of interventions and adaptations to assist in creating and executing a personalized learning program for your student. My main goal is for the student to achieve understanding to ensure long term learning and positive changes. My teaching style is to put the student's preferred learning style(s) together with the learning goal to create a good attitude toward learning. I use hands-on methods to engage the student actively in the learning process. I am patient and able to identify areas of difficulty for improvement. My teaching style approaches the learner with patience and creativity. As an art and writing student, I realize that many kids learn differently, and I try to approach each situation as a unique situation. As a writing consultant what I loved hearing about was when students became more confident and improved to the point of independence. Because of this my teaching style involves breaking down the writing process into a format that is understandable for the student and using the foundations of their learning. I enjoy tutoring those who are in Middle School or High school. I feel as though they tend to have a higher capacity for sustaining attention. Those are unique ages that can really build a foundation for later education. I believe that one-on-one time is essential in learning. Some people might learn well in a large group, but others learn much better when time is spent on explaing specific details. I find the most enjoyment when a tutee finally links the core concept and is able to solve more difficult problems on their own. I am currently a Senior at Bethel College. I will recieve a bachelor's in Psychology at May 1, 2011. I have been tutoring since the summer of 2010.
