I have been a Special Education Assistant for the past 12 years. I assist the classroom teacher with with everything from paperwork to teaching lessons. I have also taught middle school math for 5 years during the summer on an emergecy credential. I have also tutored students ranging from middle school to high school ages for the past 5 years. My specialty is Math and specifically Algebra. My teaching style is to individualize instruction for each child. I believe that every child has their own way of learning and I would teach in a way so that they could be successful. I teach one concept at a time, building on each concept as they master it. I have a style that is very positive and encouraging so as to keep the student motivated. I celebrate even the smallest of successes. I believe that every child can turn a weakness into a strength given the right guidance.

I like to use the book as an outline of the material to be taught. Visual aids are very important to me. I believe pictures are worth a thousand words. I am very patient and great with communicating ideas to others. While a student, I was a teachers assistant in a chemistry lab at my college. During school, I spent numerous hours studying with large groups of students. Together we practiced methods for teaching our knowledge, this way everyone in the group understood the material.

What I like about helping people learn more and do better in communicating and expressing themselves is that it gives me a chance to "give back" all that I know in a special way. I teach people how to do things through a method of "learning by doing" with practical (and many times personal experience) exercises. Writing and communicating is a craft that anyone can do if they understand how to "map out" their thoughts and ideas in an outline and then "build from there" filling in the gaps.
