Positive & helping students find what makes them love music

I've got a lot of performing and music experience and follow the idea you can't really teach something if you can't do it!! The things I tutor are all things I have accomplishments in doing. I wrote above that I'm Emmy-nominated, toured everywhere, charted on Billboard and played with Nick Jonas, Pentatonix, etc. I've always chased quality and growth in the areas I've worked on. Especially as a vocalist, songwriter and producer, I've had to do so much by myself outside of instruction that I've gained a lot of knowledge that I regularly impart on my students.

I began playing piano at the age of 5. At 13 I started teaching piano in Hawaii Kai at the request of neighbors and the business has continued all these years. One of my former students is a police office now, one is a prosecuting attorney, one sailed on the Hokulea. I have great pride in feeling that my small role as a teacher helped steer them towards a successful career. We all know that music instruction helps students do better at school. Some of the most sought after surgeons in Hawaii are classically trained concert pianists. Students don't need to invest in a piano, a keyboard from Costco does just fine. I use a basic piano method (or books you may have on hand from previous lessons) and supplement the lesson with music of your choosing: show tunes, tv themes, you name it. Graduated from the University of Hawaii at Manoa in Mechanical Engineering. With that degree I have taken gain extensive knowledge in math and science subjects. With this knowledge I have tutored many high school students. I would say total tutor experience would be at least a year.
My style of teaching is clear pictorial style. I try to teach concept through a visual way, using shapes, graphs, drawings,etc. I try to teach by example as well. I will try to give examples of how a problem is solve if a person needs it.
