Although I am patient with the student, I am persistent in searching for new ways to present material so that the student can relate to it. I put my Special Education background to good use with students of all ages and walks of life, especially in breaking a skill into its component parts so as to fill in any knowledge gaps that may be unknowingly holding the student back from success. I am also gifted in recognizing hidden patterns that can help or hinder and either capitalizing on or reducing them as needed. A Little Bit About Me...

I have been a substitute teacher with the Boise School District for the past 6 years now. I have also worked for the company, Club Z tutoring. I have both a Bachelors degree as well as a Masters degree (academically) but still need to pass the Praxis II test and then student teach before I can apply for my own classroom. I prefer working with elementary age students and my speciality areas are reading, grammar, spelling, and some math. I have a high GPA of 3.8 and most of my Masters classes have enabled me to gain an understanding of reading and grammatical principles. As part of my Masters program I tutored a 5th grade girl in reading over the summer which enabled her to raise her reading and comprehension to "proficient".

I love teaching. While I have also been a counselor and administrator, I managed to be able to at least tutor along the way, with a few exceptional years. I found that children were especially responsive to me, so I often found myself with elementary children (who, under my tutelage, managed to "catch up" an/or improve their grade point average -- often to their parents' delight). Since I love learning, children and teens "catch" my enthusiasm, and invariably get caught up with my honest excitement about a suject. When teaching mathematics, I believe that over half of my job is social skills. Calming my students down, easing their frustration, and making them feel comfortable is over half the battle. It isn't that mathematics is too hard for most people, it is just too frustrating for most people. So my job is to set my client at ease and to create a learning environment.
