Hearing Impaired is one of my top subjects! I recently graduated with honors from the National Technical Institute for the Deaf. I graduated with a BS in American Sign Language interpreting. Through 4 years of rigorous study, I learned American Sign Language, PSE, as well as Cued Speech. I have interacted with and interpreted for a multitude of Deaf and hard of hearing people. I have worked with deaf and hard of hearing children, as well as Deaf and hard of hearing adults. I have also worked with deaf and hard of hearing people with a variety of disabilities. I have taken several Deaf-taught classes on Deaf Culture, as well as classes on Deaf oppression.

I have always had a passion for learning. Part of my passion includes helping others learn, grow, and succeed. As an undergraduate student, I volunteered as a Peer Mentor in order to help new students become accustomed to their classes. I also worked as a Peer Mentor for students who were struggling with their grades. Peer Mentors are carefully selected by Rochester Institute of Technology through a detailed application process. I volunteered as an English tutor, as well as a proofreader of essays, research papers, and projects. I have had the opportunity to work at a daycare for several years with children ranging from 6 weeks of age to 12 years. I have loved being able to help these children grow, learn, and succeed in their education. As a tutor, my specialties are American Sign Language and English. My undergraduate studies were in American Sign Language-English interpreting ... read more

I have spent my life working towards degrees that would help me to give my life meaning. I have earned a B.S. and M.S. in Speech-Language Pathology, as well as, a bilingual extension in Spanish. Since I also love healing through nutrition and energy work, I've earned degrees in Health Counseling and Reconnective Healing. As I continue to learn myself, I hope to inspire people to do the same!
I have been working with children ever since I can remember. I love to engage in creative activities with children while helping them utilize their strengths to overcome their limitations. A Little Bit About Me...

My goal in life is to be a successful teacher to many students. I have already began this exciting journey by volunteering in classrooms starting at the age of fourteen; now I am teaching. My teaching philosophy includes all students; all students can learn. It is the teacher's job to find out what teaching strategy will work best with each student. All students can strive, however, some students may learn material in a different method. Students need to be in a positive, conducive learning environment that best suits them so that ative learning will take place. Students need to have experiences throughout their learning career, it is my job as a teacher to provide this for students. Part of my philosophy as a teacher, is that students need to respect the teacher, yet teachers also need to respect their students so that a positive, enriching learning environment can occur. I firmly believe teaching requires structure. In that regard, the learning process requires a sequences of steps. Firstly, the student must understand the problem to be solved or the skill to be acquired. Secondly, examples are required to show how to approach and solve a prolem. Lastly, overarching concepts can be introduced to unitfy that which is new with that which is already understood. This approach has succesfully trained and kept the interest of all individuals that I have mentored.

Ever since I was a young girl, I enjoyed helping and teaching friends and family. As I grew older, I knew that I was ready to become an educator. Every student has a right to learn. There are many diverse students inside the classroom, but an effective teacher can reach every one of those students. As a teacher, it is imperative to create multiple paths to assist those students and their learning needs. I teach to reach visual learners, auditory learners, and kinestheitc learners. Also, every child needs to be appreciated, heard, and respected.
