I am currently a college student at University of California, Irvine with a 3.50 GPA studying environmental engineering. I have tutored in Spanish, Math, and Music at various age levels. I have worked for the El Dorado County Office of Education as a counselor and I would love to help any student better his or her education.

I enjoy working with kids and teaching the things that I have learned. I am confident that I can make concepts as simple as possible, so people who usually have trouble understanding ideas in math and science may have a breakthough. Coming from a very competitive school like UCLA I have acquired skills in test taking which are very valuable and I would like to pass these on to prospective college students. As a Biology student at both Saddleback and the ultra competitive UCLA, I was able to achieve high marks in all of the core cirriculum. I have no real teaching style as I have never really taught anyone. I have always helped friends out while we were in school together and I would just have to figure out at what level of knowledge they were having a hard time understanding and start to help them understand what was going on from that point on. Math has always been an achievement of mine. I went to school and started out for an engineering degree, completing all the math including hard calculus. When I got to the university level I thought a business degree would be better as it is used in all types of businesses. So on top of taking hard calc, I took business calc, accounting, finance, and economics classes which all focus on math.

I like to use the book as an outline of the material to be taught. Visual aids are very important to me. I believe pictures are worth a thousand words. I am very patient and great with communicating ideas to others. While a student, I was a teachers assistant in a chemistry lab at my college. During school, I spent numerous hours studying with large groups of students. Together we practiced methods for teaching our knowledge, this way everyone in the group understood the material.

I am a former mathematics teacher who is interested in returning to the profession. Recently, I finished a "refresher" graduate-level course at UNR, and am independently reading an assortment of literature from NCTM (National Council of Teachers of Mathematics) and others. Mathematics is a field that extends beyond a series of procedures as it taught far too widely these days. My stress is on conceptual understanding, as it is the key to understanding the subject. I am a valedictorian candidate, graduating with a degree in English.
