Confidence creates an interest in learning

I have recently graduated from the University of Michigan-Flint with a Bachelor of Science and teacher certification degree. I student taught during the fall '09 semester. Student teaching provided many opportunities to work on various teaching techniques. The student teaching semester consisted of; leading the class in discussion on a daily basis, creating worksheets, conducting lab experiments and other activities, grading homework and tests, and much more. Dr. Segal taught us that traditional teaching methods are outmoded. Therefore I came to my own conclusion that as a teacher I would allow my students to confront me on their terms and make the learning experience as relaxed as possible. Students won't learn anything if A) the environment is unsuited to them and B) if you jump down their throat over every little thing. The important question to ask them is "why?" or "what do you think?" In regards to myself teaching is an avenue that I am considering and thus a bit of real tutoring would give me a taste of how I should go about teaching in the future.

I recently have spent the last six months in the Head Start Program as a center teacher. We prepare them for kindergarten. I have taught all grade levels. I currently have a BA with a concentration in K-8 education. A Little Bit About Me...

I enjoy teaching others and helping them excel in their studies. I can relate to younger students because I have a six year old who required extensive help in the area of reading. She was one of my greatest achievements because I had to research a way to communicate on her level of understanding and yet make it interesting and fun.
