I earned a Bachelor degree in Special Education from the University of North Florida. I currently teach at Mt. Herman Exceptional Student Center. I teach Intellectually Deficient students, ranging in age from 15-20 years old. I also have taught Pre-K, Elementary, Middle School students, as well. Prior to teaching at Mt. Herman, I taught at West Jacksonville 6th Grade Center. I taught Specific Learning Disabilities, Emotionally Handicapped, as well as Trainable classes. A good description of my teaching style sould be very descriptive, and easy to follow. I break down the math into a series of steps, and practice them until they are mastered. For the students that have already decided that they hate math, I try to excite them with topics that they can relate to, such as sports, or cooking. We both make compromises, and I offer treats, or other incentives.
In high school I served as a big sister, and that's when I gained my passion for kids, and the importance of educating others. I began teaching ESE combined 3rd-5th grade and then I beacme a pre-k teacher again. I moved back to my homestate and became a kindegarten teacher for 4 years. I earned a MS degree in Montessori education during that tme and changed jobs to become a literacy coach. During that process, I also became a college instructor for Reading Prep.
