Upon leaving University I went into sales and marketing management for a couple of years. A career change occurred as I entered the realm of land surveying and mapping. I was an exemplary student athlete and attended university on multiple athletic and academic scholarships. I have been responsible for teaching over 80 employees either surveying, trigonometry, geometry or math and computation basics. I also headed up staffs of 10-70 employees while in my management role. My comments on tutoring Math : I've taught 3rd to 5th grade math for 4 years.

I've taught Special Education for 6 years (K-5th grade). Prior to working in public schools, I worked as a cognitive skills trainer. This meant that I helped individuals improve their reasoning/logic skills, memory skills, and attention skills. Cognitive skills are what make you a sharp (or dull) person.

A Little Bit About Me...

I tutor my classmates who were challenged by the courses that we were studying. Often times they could not afford paying tutoring prices at offered at school. I dislike seeing students struggle and continuously repeat courses and not improve. Classes cost finances and students are not refunded for courses they did not pass. I want to accomplish more than helping classmates succeed when I know there are many other students and children who could use help, guidance, and assistance with class subjects.
I teach in a variety of ways. I know that teachers generally teach one specific method, and not all students comprehend this one method that teachers teach. It's about what the student understands best and helping them utilize what is easiest for them to work with.

The major benefit of a one-on-one tutoring environment is that a student can be taught in the manner which best suits their personal learning style. I believe it is imperative to identify a student's preferred learning style and to adapt my teaching accordingly. When working with a student, I prefer to allow the student to work through a problem and discover the answers themselves, while I guide and instruct them, instead of merely showing them. While grades and test scores are obviously important, it is my main goal to increase a student's confidence in a subject.
