Theory, sight singing, composition, ear training my curriculum teaches theory, technique, scales, chords and songs of the students choice. I am passionate for all things musical from music theory to musical instruments. This comes out in my teaching and tutoring. I have been teaching theory, piano, guitar and drums with my own curriculum for twenty years. I graduated with double BA in Music Education and Music Performance in classical guitar from Florida International University in 1997. I have owned my private music lesson business since 1999 and now look forward to working with additional students through Wyzant. Musically, on a more personal note, as a guitarist I have played with many musicians and also headlined the Black River Falls Festival with my former band and released 3 CDs. My start in music began with trips from a young age to my mom's rehearsals. As a young child my first instrument of interest was the drums and noticing that I wasn't that good (sister playing better) I quickly moved on to other instruments. During my tenth grade year I joined my high school's marching band playing the trombone. I decided to continue the trombone as my primary instrument while in college at Grambling State University. There I was also able to study other instruments such as bass guitar, piano and organ. Going to college in Louisiana, which has such a musically rich environment, allowed me the opportunity to play venues such as casinos, clubs, appear in commercials and even a halftime show for super bowl 32 as well as other NFL games. My style tends to range based on who I am trying to teach, and I suppose is most accurately labeled as adaptive. I understand that different people learn things in different ways, and so I try to accommodate that with my teaching. For instance if I found that a student learns better visually then I would attempt to use visual cues and examples in lesson plans to make the material as easy to understand as possible. I also believe in keeping a very loose and pleasant atmosphere, and making sure that everyone feels comfortable and safe, which I believe also assists in the learning process.
