A Little Bit About Me...

I like to teach students not only the material but also how to study in general. I am sure learning how to study will help students throughout their lives.
I am a current international (korean), sophomore Economics major student at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, VA. I have taught students since I was in high school. I have several tutoring experiences from volunteering at Churches in the DC metropolitan area to private 1 on 1 tutoring. I enjoy teaching a lot, and I really love it when students come to me with happy faces after doing well on their tests. I am able to teach different subjects, but my strongest area is math, especially algebra. I also like to teach English (2310 on SAT - 730 Reading, 780 Writing, 800 Math). My ability to break things down to a level where students can understand more thoroughly has always been a string point for me. This coupled with my ability to develop a strong rapport with students has produced a positive result. I have large amounts of energy and enthusiasm that children gravitate to. On the recent term assessment for Charlottesville City Schools my children scored an 86% average. I have worked for one school year as a substitute for both Hanover County and Louisa County, I am Currently employed by Hanover County Public Schools as a teaching assistant while continuing my work on my graduate work. I will still be employed by hanover County Schools for the 2009-2010 School year.
I work well as a one on one special education aide because my attention is soley on the activities and education of my students. I am a laid back worker, and extremely patient because I find that if I allow myself to get out of shape, then I am not an effective teacher and aide, and my students will see this. I strive to be a good role model to them all, even when I may be frustrated but I find constructive ways of venting such as listening to music during class quiet times and taking walks with my students during activity breaks and while they are in PE.

The chance to tutor peers in high school was the initial spark towards considering education as a career. During my undergraduate studies the desire has grown as I was given the opportunity in the role of Teaching Assistant. I found from those experiences that I have an ability to gauge a student’s comprehension of the material during sessions.
