I've taught English in India to predominantly Tamil speaking children grades first through sixth. I was also teaching mathematics and science for a semester. I have a lot of experience in the arts. I've done children's theater and worked with high school students in oral interp. I've acted in college theatre productions, and also had the chance to direct, stage manage, and work with stage production on multiple shows. I went to college for two years for theatre and a year for art. I have basic drawing and painting experience, as well as my own mixed media work that I have continued after leaving school. In my spare time I like to read about sustainable farming, natural herbs and their health benefits, social activism, religion, and culture.

A Little Bit About Me...

While earning my bachelor's degree, I worked in several tutoring programs assisting students with reading comprehension and writing composition skills. I taught grammar to small groups, read one-on-one with third graders and assisted junior high school students with their homework assignments. Though my degree is in fine art, I began my undergraduate career as an English major. In high school I took both AP English exams and I went on an honors trip to England to study British literature. Also as a high school senior I took sixth place at the state speech tournament with an oratory that I wrote. Even now as an aspiring children's book author/illustrator the written word still captivates me.

In the past,I've taught ESL, Health-care Occupations & Opportunities,both MRI/CT Applications. I also worked for AOL as an on-line teacher/tutor/mentor in their Academic Assistance Center.I hold two cleared teaching credentials one for Vocational Ed.and the other for Adult Ed. These qualify me to teach GED,ESL and any health-care related class. Currently,I'm working as a substitute teacher in Weld County, a grandparent mentor in Larimer County, as well as a part-time instructor at ELTC teaching courses in Medical Terminology and Phlebotomy.
I like the students to learn how to learn. While I will guide them, test them and occasionally point them toward appropriate reference materials, I do not do the work for them....that's their job and the only way they will develop the appropriate learning skills, self-confidence and a thirst for knowledge.
