The word student comes from the Latin to be eager, and I love to instill the love of learning, n eagerness to learn, in children. The education or drawing out of a child's mind is the ultimate goal, and doing so in a disciplined yet exciting way has proven the best method for engaging students of all ages.
As a Research Scientist in Corporate America, I took the opportunity to focus on enhancing the math and science education of high, middle, and elementary school students. In addition to hands-on classroom activities, I was involved in the Program In Rochester to Interest Students in Science and Math (PRISSM), judged Science Fairs and Science Competitions. I offer students a patient listening ear so I can encourage their strengths and understand their weaknesses. Often by asking questions, doing practice problems and just listing to the student's logic, I can tweak their thought process so they better understand the material. I am so proud of a student who begins to understand something they thought was too difficult. If a student has a willingness to learn I can share techniques to make learning easier. I help students develop a step-by-step process they can apply to each type of problem. I find that using charts and tables can help to organize complex problems. Even a wrong answer often gets partial credit if the work shown is neat and the teacher can follow the student's logic.
