I began tutoring people when I was in the eigth grade. I decided I wanted to help out at the school across the street from my middle school in Colorado. I enrolled in a class that allowed us to go and assist the teachers and help the students. I fell in love with kids then for sure. I already knew I liked them because I started babysitting when I was 11 and couldn't stop! Then in ninth grade, a neighbor failed kindergarten and asked if I would starting coming over several days a week to help him understand what was being taught. Needless to say, he made it to the first grade! I now have a 17 year old sister who is constantly asking for my assistance in her homework and it is with great pleasure that I assist her.

My teaching style is to engage young people into the developmental process, through empowerment. By allowing young to have a say in their own development, I find it makes them more willing to be open for learning. After receiving a PhD in chemistry from Purdue University I worked over 20 years in discovery research areas. I then turned to my calling of education and became a certified science teachers for grades 8-12. I taught middle school science for five years. I have since retired but love to stay connected to science and math education by tutoring. I have the gift of being able to take complex subject matter, make it easy to undersand and connect it to the real world.
Students come with various background and motivation levels and ways of learning. A tutor needs to be able to discover within the student the best way for that student to learn. I spent one year as a Headstart teacher. I have several years of substitute teaching experience working with different subjects and grades. I was a tutor throughout college. I just began tutoring again this year for CARE. I have recently tutored chemistry & biology.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have two degrees from college: A Master's Degree in Communications and a BA in Journalism. I have been teaching now for about eight years (all levels). I love working with children and adults alike. Teaching college was very rewarding. However,for the past four years I have been a long-term substitute working a variety of subjects.It has been immensely rewarding to work with kids. I have mainly worked at elementary schools.
