I have degrees in civil engineering and have been in the workforce for 17 years. This has given me a great background in math and science. Since 2008 I have taught math courses at Lakeshore Technical College. I teach Math with Business Applications and Algebra for General Chemistry. I currently tutor two students in math--One is a high school sophomore who is struggling with geometry and wants to get his grades up, and the other is trying to get into a military program and needs to beef up his math score on the ASVAB. I am a second year UW Madison student pursuing a math degree. I have completed Calculus 1, Calculus 222, Calculus 234, Calculus 3 based engineering statistics, and Actuarial Science (a class designed to prepare actuarial students for the P exam). During my enrollment at the University of Arizona in Tucson, I tutored several students in advanced psychology courses as well as advanced English composition courses to undergraduates. I graduated from the University of Arizona with honors--a member of Psi Chi National Honor Society in Psychology and a memmber of Golden Key National Honor Society. I enjoy hands-on teaching and one-on-one interaction with students. Good writing can simplify the thought process, and leads to students becoming better thinkers and communicators. I am easy-going and patient, but I take language and writing very seriously. There is no excuse for poor or careless writing, and I believe that an easily-taught, simple approach, can unlock the potential of any writer. I achieved an English degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where my senior thesis was selected as a finalist for the UW Creative Writing prize. I am passionate about the English language, but I think that writing is becoming a lost art. Quality writers are quality communicators. After having raised 4 children, I know that each child has a different learning style. One may be very able to understand abstract thoughts and teaching styles while the other may not. Therefore, tutoring must be done on a very individual basis. I volunteered for the Special Olympics and for the D.A.R.E program from Elementary students back in 2003 and 2008. With the Special Olympics, I helped cook and serve food to the contestants in the olympics and I also was there to be a friendly and supportive coach-assistant to the athletes. With the D.A.R.E program, I went to Elementary schools in the town of Faribault MN, and I worked along side with the police department to show and educate kids the dangers of meeting strangers and how to handle that type of situation. I don't have a wide teaching experience but I do enjoy working and helping Elementary or junior high leveled children.
