A Little Bit About Me...

I am working toward a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature with a minor in Philosophy. I have achieved very high marks in college board English examinations and I am VERY proficient in all aspects of the English field. I have also played the French horn in band for the past 9 years and I know how to play the trumpet as well. I would feel comfortable teaching a beginner on either of those instruments.

A Little Bit About Me...

I taught freshman composition at Texas A&M Commerce and Paris Junior College. My primary focus in graduate school was literature. Much of my studies related to children's and adolescent literature. The study of composition and compositional theory made up a secondary focus of my studies. After graduating, I worked in the sales and management fields and assisted students in the community in writing speeches for competition and personal statements for college applications.
I prefer working one on one with students and in group situations I utilize a collaborative learning approach.

Poetry is one of my top subjects! Poetry is probably my best field outside creative writing. Although my Milton is a bit sketchy, I can teach the student a great deal about what they need to know about either a poet, or "explicating" poetry meaning to take apart and understand poetry or even to appreciate a poem. I am knowledge about most major poets writing in English from Shakespeare to the 20th century, not simply from my English degree, but because I am always a student of poetry myself, reading and rereading what people call "the classics" or masterfully written poetry in contemporary anthologies. If the student has trouble understanding what a poet is saying, or has trouble finding the meaning of a poem, I know some good techniques of how to read a complicated image or metaphor. I can explain about imagery, similes, allusions, metaphor and other areas of a poem, as well as the poem's broader meaning. I am also good at letting students acquire their own insights, not simply my insights, because original interpretation is what some teachers might want.

My name is Eric Fisher Stone and I graduated with B.A. from Texas Christian University in the summer of 2008. I attended graduate school directly after, and acquired 20 graduate hours and the University of Idaho’s MFA in Creative Writing Program where I taught freshmen composition. I currently live in Fort Worth, Texas in the zip code of 76133. My main areas of expertise are creative writing, and poetry. I can also teach fiction writing because I have some experience in that as well, having a fiction publication in Descant, Fort Worth’s Journal of Fiction and Poetry. I maintained, in my English major, a GPA of 3.7. My knowledge of literature overall is pretty solid and it is strongest in British Romanticism and American Transcendentalism (meaning American poets like Whitman and thinkers such as Emerson and Thoreau.) With Shakespeare, the plays I am most knowledgeable in are, “A Midsummer ... read more

Up to date pedagogically. Interested in overall basics.

30+ years high school/college teaching experience. I have used a variety of textbooks, technology, and media and am willing to and could easily adapt to others' teaching styles or requests. I have the belief that hands on usage, be it writing or speaking or peer teaching, supersedes passive practice eg. reading, listening, copying, rote memorization of passages or terminology, etc. Activity and involvement lend credence and joy to language learning.

I have a passion for language and rhetoric. Words, truth, knowledge, and exploration have marked my academic career. I studied with two colleges during my Associate years in order to obtain lessons in Japanese. I took my passion for language into history with pursuits in Latin and Greek while attending the College of Saint Thomas More. I have specific experience with Theology, Philosophy, Literature, Rhetoric, Latin, Greek, Japanese, and Anatomy.
I enjoy the wonders of discovery and assisting others with master concepts and practical logic that helps them in every aspect of their lives. Tutoring is not so simply as to aid a child in finding the answer or getting a college student to pass the examine. A Little Bit About Me...

As an honor student at the University of Texas at Arlington I was very much driven to achieve a high level of education. I have tutored for the university in subjects such as Finance, Accounting, Math, Biology and Economics, during my undergrad years. Currently I am pursuing a Masters Degree in Accounting, and I serve as a supplemental instructor for undergraduate students in Accounting subjects.
I believe that all children can learn, although in different ways, and I believe that given a bit of positive reinforcement and helping someone to believe in his/her abilities enables them to reach their potential. I am extremely patient, and realize that everyone has different ways of learning, and given the right encouragement, children are capable of achieving anything they set their minds to.
