Biology is one of my top subjects! I have a B.S. in Biology, an M.A. in Entomology, and several credit hours towards a Ph.D in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. I have taught both lecture and laboratory sections of General Biology at the college level and high school level. In addition to my formal teaching experiences, I also worked as a zoo educator for many years teaching about animals, biomes, ecology, and conservation. I have never had formal experience tutoring. However Throughout my years of schooling I would participate in study groups which I see as everyone tutoring eachother. I also have two siblings, one very close in age and the other is approximately four years younger. Needless to say, I frequently helped my younger sister with her homework. Just to clarify when I say 'help' I do not mean I just gave her the answers, I would make sure that I either explained or demonstrated the correct way to approach a problem in order to make sure that she understood how to apply the knowlege come test time.
I am a kenisthetic learner but when "hands on" is really not an option I (especially with mathematics) draw so that I have a visual, physical representation of the task at hand.

I enjoy tutoring because it allows me to share the thought processes I go through when trying to solve a math problem. In high school I struggled with mathematics, which I believe has always given me a special insight into other people's struggle with the subject. Laid back, but encouraging.If a child is struggling, I don't think you should add fear and criticism to the situation. Having had Catholic nuns in all my grammer school days, pretty much put the "fear of God" into me, until I went on to public high school and college. then I was able to relax and embrace english and literature.
My BA degree was in Speech & Theatre. Who would have known that a shy kid like me would have excelled in public speaking, english, and theatre. I love the English language, even though I've had classes in French and Spanish. I started school when I was 4 years old (too early), and all my grade school years was challanged with education.
