Since I have completed degrees in English, and Education with a Literacy specialization, I am more than qualified to teach/tutor students in English/LA and Reading. Additionally, I've passed the Praxis II Exam that the State of Alabama requires to "highly qualify" teachers. Moreover, I have spent four 1/2 years working directly with students in Special Education and ESL. I have extensive experience with inclusion, differentiated instruction, and accomodating lessons.
I believe all students can learn any material, but it’s up to teachers, parents and schools to work together to come up with the best educational plan to make sure that they do. I love working with adolescents. I believe with all of my heart that each teen has the ability to accomplish great things with the proper motivation. I truly believe that children, teens as well as adults learn best by doing. I do not believe in teaching to a particular topic. I believe in teaching to the student and how the individual student learns. I want each one of my student's to succeed in their school environment as well as in their lives.
Since January 2008, I have had the opportunity of tutoring at risk 9th, 10th, and 11th graders at Leeds High School's AVID (Achievement Via Individual Determination). I attempt to teach them critical thinking skills, reading skills, as well as studying skills. I have worked with the AVID program while I completed my Masters Program.
