Passionate Elementary Education Tutor

I love teaching and I love to see the spark in a child's eye when they finally understand a subject they have struggled with! I am a certified special education instructional support aide for an elementary school in northwest Fort Worth. During the school year, I work in Resource and Content Mastery with special education students that are in general education classes but need additional instruction in Reading, Math, and Language Arts. I also provide additional assistance through Content Mastery to students in Science and Social Studies. I am currently pursuing a second Master's degree in Education with a specialization in Special Education as well as pursuing teacher certification through Texas Teachers. Although I work with all levels of students, my specialty is working with children with Autism and behavior issues.

Brain-based, student-centered
I'm Ebony! I graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor's in Cognitive Studies and Education, and earned a Master's degree with distinction in Curriculum and Instruction. I am a Cognitive Specialist/neuroeducator whose sole objective is bridging the divide between the student and the content, using methods based on the individual's learning style. As I think back to when I have achieved most success as a student, it was always because of a phenomenal educator who taught the content in ways that appealed to my learning style. I was immersed in the content, and I thrived because of it. I provide the same instructional strategies and experiences for my students, who vary from children with neurological differences such as Autism, Dyslexia, and other learning differences, to gifted students, to adults who never learned how to read or perform mathematics. “To know how to suggest is the art of teaching.”

I have recently graduated and am eager to share my knowledge with others. During my time in school, I became an AP Scholar, Presidential Scholar, 21st Century Scholar, and Honor Graduate. I graduated in the top ten percent of my class and am dedicated to the education of others. I am currently pursuing a degree in education.
Learning should be a fun experience for children and adults alike, and while I maintain structure, I also want to make sure that students are enjoying the time that they spend learning with me. I am a patient teacher, and as someone who went through school with ADD, I understand the difficulties many children face in traditional classroom settings.

More About This Tutor...

As a student I am seeking a career as a psychologist and am 2 semesters away from completing my MA and 2 years from my PsyD. So I understand what it's like to be a student! As a teacher my strong suit would be teaching writing because in my education I have become comfortable with my writing skills. I can help people learn to do writing that is focused and that easily communicates their ideas. Of course I am also very knowledgeable on social sciences and also statistics.
I enjoy working with people and I try to connect with students' strengths to bring up their weak spots. I'm very good at getting people enthusiastic about learning too. I work to provide a comfortable collaborative relationship in which students feel comfortable learning and trying out new ideas and techniques.

For the past couple of years, I have assisted in tutoring my peers, children, and adults in many of the subjects I have listed on my profile. The courses I tutor in are ones I have made exceptional grades in, so I am very confident in my abilities to tutor. I cannot guarantee that who I tutor will immediately receive A's, but it is a work in progress and it also depends on how much time the student puts in to study. Overall, my methods are effective, and you'll get your money's worth for sure.

My whole life I have had a love of education. I look forward to sharing this love with students and teaching them that learning need not be something to be feared. I am a very adaptable teacher who can easily modify my teaching to work for a variety of learners. My style uses a constructivist approach in which all students are viewed as unique individuals and are expected to take an active role in their education. Most importantly to me, I embrace mistakes and help my students to understand that mistakes as simply part of the learning process and not a dead end. I truly believe that I can make a positive difference in these students' lives through tutoring and I look forward to the challenge.
