My comments on tutoring Reading Comprehension : As a tutor of 10th- and 11th-grade foreign exchange students, I have found that advancing their reading and reading comprehension skills serves as a prelude to massaging their competency in writing. I am also hired each year by Pearson Education, Inc. to assess the reading comprehension skills of fifth graders taking the Ohio Achievement Assessment (OAA test).

I am foremost a writer whose 38-year, award-winning career is rooted in journalism. However, I also have an extensive teaching background. My comments on tutoring Reading Comprehension : Learning to understand what you read is the foundation of critical thinking. Learn to read for understanding, including how to read in between the lines!

I try to do some explication, and then have the student try some exercises or venture out on their own. In the cases of multiple sessions, I DO assign homefun (as opposed to homework), so that the student will have some experience when next we meet.
I am an experienced graphic and web designer. But in college I thought I was going to be either an English or History Professor, or an Attorney. That's why I studied lots of his History, English, and took the pre-law major Philosophy. I have several year of post-graduate classes as well. I started teaching Graphic Design in 2002, and brought into that Web Design, along with the skills that accompany them - HTML and CSS. I have even designed signs, and love it!
