I am a current Honors Student at Eastern Kentucky University, studying both Spanish and the Visual Arts. I am in my seventh year of Spanish language and cultural studies, and have had many opportunities to improve my language skills through my courses of study, translating for Spanish-speakers, and immersing myself in the Hispanic community. In High School, I took AP Spanish and genuinely enjoyed it. Visual Art has always been my passion. In high school, I took courses such as Art 1, Painting, Ceramics/ Pottery 1 and 2, Independent study Ceramics/ Pottery, and Crafts. I am currently working towards an undergraduate degree in this field as well. Since graduating from college, I have pursued further education through supplemental education. While working, I have attended classes in the evenings to keep current with teaching trends, practical classroom skills and the social-emotional needs of children in learning. For 8 years, I was an instructional assistant, but also substituted and served as an after school tutor. For the past 5 years, I have been a pre-school teacher with Migrant Head Start. Spanish was the home language of all the students in the classroom and, as teachers, we used both languages. I feel qualified to teach pre-K or first grade Spanish speaking children and to teach Spanish to pre-K or first grade English speaking children.
