For the last two years I have taught college level biology labs. These have been introductory biology classes with course material beginning with cell biology and ending with ecology. In 2010 I received the Outstanding Teaching Assistant award form the biology department. My experiences are in both biology and environmental science. I enjoy working with students to help them understand biology and how they participate in a biological world. I believe that the most important concept in teaching is engagement with the student. I strive to engage students in biology by exploring how biological concepts relate to the students life. Genetic diseases, growth and development, and the environment are biological topics that students already participate in; and I strive to teach by relating these topics to the student’s own life.

As a graduate from an accredited college, I have learned and excelled as a science major. I have wanted to work with kids all my life. I love the way that they learn and think, and how different it is from adults. During my graduate career, I taught six semesters of biology to non-science majors.
