A Little Bit About Me...

It is important to me that all children reach their best potential in whatever grade I am teaching. I have been in the teaching profession for 20 years and each day brings something different. Although, I came from a family of medical and science background, I have always wanted to teach and after 20 years, I am glad to say that I chose this profession. My goals are to meet each child at his/her learning level and provide the best education possible. Teaching is very subjective. Each individual learns according to his/her own style. What I find challenging and rewarding is to find that point where it “clicks”. I believe the best way to learn is through experience and discovery. As an example, I can describe the intelligence of an octopus. But until you actually see a video of one opening a jar for a treat, do you truly realize it as a thinking, planning being. I feel that teaching an individual how to use available resources is just as important as the actual subject. Enabling a student to go out and discover the wonders around him/her through research and education is a wonderful thing indeed.

As the child of teachers, I learned the value of a good education early in life. With my parents' guidance and encouragement, I obtained both a BS and a PhD in Chemistry (which included a Study-Abroad stint in the Netherlands). Following my time in Europe, I pursued a 25-year industrial chemistry career that was centered on the automotive, specialty chemical and building material industries. Additional activity in overseas technical transfers and global business has enhanced my communications skills (e.g., university-level funding proposal preparation).
