I try to provide mentoring while teaching to help students who are looking for a reason to succeed. Working as a Spanish Interpreter, I work with pre-school aged children. I work with them during their therapy time, especially in Speech Therapy. I enjoy being able to help these young students overcome many obstacles that they are facing. I am very patient with them and considerate of their different needs. I have had the great pleasure of teaching students from diverse backgrounds and demographics - from senior citizens to very young home-schoolers; wealthy retirees preparing for vacation to college students living on a shoe-string budget; college graduates wanting to improve their language skills to academically challenged youth needing help to pass a class. I consider myself a facilitator, not an authoritarian. I ascribe to the principles set forth by Malcolm Knowels and Benjamin Bloom. I rely on the strength and motivation of the student. I hesitate to call myself "teacher." I think I serve better as a guide which, hopefully, leads his client not just to a more enlightend place, but also to the place the client wants to be, or had in mind in the first place. During the last twelve years I have worked within the public school system in both Arkansas and Florida. Between 1998 and 2000 I worked as a substitute for the Cabot School District. Between the years of 2000 and 2005 I worked with the Special Education teacher at Landmark Elementary in Little Rock, AR to ensure student achievement. In 2005 I moved to Ocala, FL and worked for the Hammett L. Bowen Elementary until June 2010. While in the district I was able to complete my ESOL certification as well as work with special education students in a full inclusion setting. Though I am certified to teach all subjects, my fields of expertise are in the areas of math, science, and language arts.
