My comments on tutoring Poetry : I have a Masters in Poetry from the University of Michigan, where I was awarded a Zell Postgraduate Fellowship and was a semi-finalist for the Thoerdore Roethke Hopwood Award. My collection of poems, Point of Sand, was awarded the Michigan Writers Chapbook Award in 2009. In addition to spending my summers on the Creative Writing Faculty at the Interlochen Center for the Arts where I teach high school poetry majors, I currently teach in the English department at the University of Michigan.

I received my Masters in Poetry from the University of Michigan in 2011, where I was awarded a Zell Postgraduate Fellowship, and where I currently teach in the English Department. This will be my 6th summer on the Creative Writing Faculty at the Interlochen Center for the Arts, where I world primarily with high school poetry majors. I have a chapbook (Michigan Writers Associated Press. 2009), and have publications in journals such as The Dunes Review and The Smoking Poet.
I had a wonderful teacher once who quoted a line from a Richard Brautigan book that went, "My teachers could easily have ridden with Jessie James for all the time they stole from me." I have a peer tutoring teaching style. My goal is for the tutee to achieve success both independently and through his or her communication with others. For this to develop, I focus my efforts toward empathy and proceed to learn with the tutee.
