A Little Bit About Me...

My formal teaching experience consists of weekly classes and workshops at Artful Journey, and over three years at ArtWorks Fine Art Studio. While there I taught traditional drawing and painting with a focus on teaching students to draw realistically. I guided all ages through color theory, design, drawing, painting, and printmaking. I also helped manage our studios, set up new curriculum for our summer workshops and developed and created working examples. I also held a teaching assistantship at Cranbrook, which consisted of mentoring my fellow graduate students, managing our facilities, and assisting our artists in residence.

I am a graduate of both the University of Colorado and Adams State College. I hold a Master's degree in Secondary Education as well as a Initial Teacher's license. I have experience as a volunteer tutor in social studies and math, a paid tutor in reading, a student teacher, and as a substitute for the last year and a half. I also have experience as a mentor to young people through the YMCA.
My teaching style revolves around the specific learning needs of students because each person not only learns differently but has specific strengths and weakness. A Little Bit About Me...

While I was attending college I worked in child care with a variety of ages preparing lessons for enrichment. I also taught as an adjunct professor for adult ESL at Aims Community College. After finishing my degree, I taught for five years at Wiggins Elementary in 2nd and 6th grade. I was trained in FAST reading program as well as many others for teaching reading and math. For the past two years, I have been living in the country of Macedonia as a US Peace Corps volunteer. My job there entailed working with primary school teachers to develop student centered teaching techniques and resources. I received my bachelors’ degree in May, 2004 from Metropolitan State College with a BA in Behavioral Science (minor: Elementary Education). In the fall of 2004 I continued my education at MSCD by enrolling in the teacher preparation program, pursuing an endorsement in elementary education. 12 semester hours of student teaching remain before I obtain my teaching license; however, for personal reasons, I have stopped attending school for the time being. A Little Bit About Me...

I became a para and went on to get my teaching degrees.Initially I received a BS in Human Services(This degree dealt with ethics, social work, counseling, and confidential issues) I felt these were issues as a teacher that would be beneficial. After working as a substitute for 2 years,I applied and was offered a Special Education position. I took the job and went to Regis University while I was working with 7th and 8th grade students. I worked at this position for three years, the year I graduated 2007 the school was faced with downsizing and I was let go. I worked the following year with 7th and 8th grade students in a different school district. I continue to move forward with learning and teaching.
