A Little Bit About Me...

I have always enjoyed English and Writing. I have kept a journal since I was in the 1st grade. I scored very high in these areas on my ACT's, as well as in all of my high school and college classes. I am enthusiastic, kind, positive and approachable. I passed my state boards on the first try because I feel I have excellent study skills. I enjoy working with people and find joy in helping others. I was a substitute teacher for a short period of time before taking a job as a counselor in 2004. In 2006 I moved to the Blue water area and have been employed as a medical social worker at a rehab and nursing center. I am looking for an opportunity to help others succeed in school and life.

Kind and patient tutor for math, science & computing.

Patient, relaxed, friendly. Able to translate concepts into different scenarios in order to help the student grasp the concept.
Although not degreed in math, science or computers, they were my favorite subjects. More importantly, I am gifted in communicating concepts into terms my students understand and grasp. Repetition doesn't equate to learning, it's a component, it's a way to practice, but it is not how the mind grasps the concept. You will find me kind and patient, I understand you may not get the concept the first or second time. I do however, have high expectations in completing homework. I am a believer in life-long learning. I believe that as a teacher it is our responsiblity to find the technique that matches with the child in developing their ability to learn. I have children of my own and I love to watch as they learn new concepts and grasp ideas. I believe it is a partnership between children, teacher and parents to create the learning environment and support.
I have over 10 years teaching at the college level. Some of that experience is face-to-face and most is online. I am a strong advocate for education. I also have two children of my own who I work with on a daily basis. Both of my children excel in school and I believe it is because of the one-on-one work we do at home.

A Little Bit About Me...

I began officially tutoring four years ago, starting up a private tutoring business. Through it, I have taught ages 5 through 55 in nearly all subjects, including mathematics, science, physics, ACT, and English. I also have tutored publicly at Oakland University for one year, where I earned my tutoring certification (level 1).
My passion is in watching others to succeed, and I am willing to change my own methods to make that happen. Thus, my tutoring style depends almost entirely on the student as I have found that the most common reason a tutor is needed is that the student's learning style does not match with the teacher's teaching style.
