I am an innate musician. I've been performing, singing, and playing piano and flute since elementary school and have always adored it. My music experience began with performance where many people from high school through college encouraged me to pursue it professionally. I really enjoy teaching and using a variety of educational methods to reach students. Some students respond much better to one-on-one teaching methods than they do in a larger class environment. I have had many successful tutoring experiences in the past with a variety of students (even those classified as having learning disabilities). I believe that teaching styles need to be flexible to the student. I have worked with a very wide variety of students, from the severely limited autistic youth to the highly gifted medical student. While approach and focus might vary for the individual or subject matter the essence remains the same. I try to envision at least 3 different ways of approaching a problem, I discuss material but let the students ask questions which I then tailor my explanations toward. Everyone sees a problem slightly differently and if you allow yourself an open mind and creative thinking often you can help them break through a difficult problem because you are able to see it their way.
