My comments on tutoring Test Preparation : help student come up with the best way to prepare for taking a test while helping aleviate some of the tension associated with test taking

Over the years I have developed study skills to help students with special needs as well as help individuals with special needs on the job site. I interview a potential student to find out the best way he or she learns. I would then adapt my teaching style to their learning method.I have worked with visually impaired students who needed me to transcribe their classroom tapes into braille or who needed me to write lecture notes for them. I worked with students who were taking English as a Second Language writing up grammar lessons,participating in Bridge classes, developing study hours for conversational practices at home and using pictures to get across ideas. Never stop pushing yourself to learn

I have taught a large array of children and adults, anywhere from a 2nd grader struggling with reading to adult Burmese refugees. I have the patience and flexibility to successfully work with anyone. I started tutoring when I was around the age of 13. I taught a young Korean girl English, where I would have to create my own lesson plans. While I attended Okemos high school, I partook in volunteering experiences that dealt with tutoring. For two years, I was placed at an elementary school where I would tutor 1st-5th graders biweekly with anything from basic math to practice with reading. I built strong connections with the children, which I could use to better their learning. At Michigan State University, I spent a semester tutoring at the Boys and Girls club of Lansing. I am a retired teacher with 36 years of experience. I have taught from the 6th grade through community college. I also have a combined 49 seasons of coaching experience in football and basketball.I have written curriculum for high school and college classes. Subjects I have previously taught are: CAD, drafting, woodworking, study skills, computers, careers, home maintenance, residential framing, construction, and I spent a year as a Dean of Students.
