As I entered college, I quickly was labeled a tutor by my friends. They would find me before exams so I could give them a crash course on what they needed to know before an exam. Little by little, I had a following of friends and acquaintances who were reliant on me to do well in their courses. I have informally tutored many throughout my time at Princeton University in many different fields within Chemistry. I've found when the subject is also a passion, teaching others to see the reasons for that passion makes learning fun and easy. Chemistry can be a challenging subject - my goal is to change that. For instance, when I took the initiative of teaching french to my newborn (now a teen), I used to flip and "read" small colorful one-large-drawing-per-page books with a noun written with its article. Afterwards, every so often and when the child is ready, to go up one level of difficulty, I did just that and my child spoke fluently with complete sentences at age 13 months. I like to use the hands on approach. I find out what the weaknesses are of my students and address the topics by giving a general review. I present a problem for them to work out. After a few minutes, I ask them what they think is the best way to approach the problem. If they cannot come up with one, I then guide them through the appropriate thinking pattern in order for them to solve the problem.
