I have work as a para educator and a volunter in a special education classroom setting as well as a special education church ministry. I have over ten years experince in the Early Childhood Development area. My comments on tutoring ADD/ADHD : Many of my students struggle with this learning issue, but can overcome and learn how to navigate with it!

I assess the student's level of mastery by listening to parents, communicating with the student (in whatever appropriate way needed) and then doing some basic testing. Once the student is assessed, I design a learning environment and activities that coincide with the student's specific strengths, while adding some elements of challenge. I tend to work in a very focused way for 10-15 minutes, and then add in tactile activities (like Bannana Grams for example) for 10 minutes or so, in order to maintain the student's attention. Children and youth who are struggling to read and write get patient assistance to learn the words correctly. My work will improve writing techniques (including essays and basic writing skills), reading comprehension, vocabulary development, and literary creativity. My comments on tutoring ADD/ADHD : I have taught and continue to teach students with many different academic disabilities.

I have worked as a Special Education Instructional Assistant for the past 8 years. I am currently attending school to become a special education teacher. I have experience teaching many different students from various grade levels and have tracked their academic progression. I have ran several reading and math interventions for my school sites for kindergarten through 8th grade.
Interactive modeling of examples, repetition, and simplifying subject matter are key components of my teaching style. Many students have difficulty relating to academic material due the lack being given time to practice example assignments. I also teach universal strategies of how to study material to fully understand assignments.

I graduated from CSUS and received my BA in Psychology in 2007. I worked as a tutor in a Title-I elementary school working with children at or below reading level and also those who were ESL.
