I have always been a tutor of sorts. I love to teach kids because of the sparkle they get in their eyes when they finally understand what they are being taught. Each child have a different learning style so I try to work with them to see what works for them. I have worked with kids who have ADD and the gifted. The greatest thing I can teach is that we can teach to create intelligence, but wisdom comes from using all that you know.
I started tutoring in 7th grade back in 1976. I have been tutoring my own kids for over 14 years. I have been a Scout leader for over 9 years. I worked with boys ages 5 to 18 years of age. I have brought 2 learning disabled teens into my home to help them graduate High School. Both have gone on to be Certified Welders. I have presided over the Parental Acceptance Committee for both Fremont and all five of WSOS HeadStart Counties and all the cent ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style is basic. I feel it is most important for a student to grasp the basics before they can move on to more complicated subject material. I also am a strong believer of parental involvement. A parent knows their children's learning patterns best. I like to use different approaches. Activities that are visually and mentally stimulting help to form a connection between the student and the lesson. It is important to me that each of my student's set and acheive goals.
As a high school student, I attended Tiffin University to gain college experience and credit earlier than expected. After graduating from Clyde High school, I went on to Ohio State Mansfield, where I majored in psychology and special education. I am currently a full time student at Ashford University online. I am studying to become an advocate for special needs persons and children. I have been tutoring stud ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that students learn best when they are involved in the process. Therefore I like to put students in charge of their learning-whether it is presenting information gathered for a presentation or helping to develop the topics that will be discussed in a particular unit; as long as they are involved and not passive in the process students will learn. I believe it is my job to act as a guide not a dictator in a students education.
Currently, I hold a bachelor of history degree and I am working on obtaining teacher licensure at the Masters level in curriculum and instruction: AYA social studies.

A Little Bit About Me...

As a Psychology student, I understand the importance of learning. I tutored middle and high school aged children in all subject areas, particularly in math. As I have been tutoring, I have seen that math and science are not children's strong subjects and I work to have the students understand them more.
I love working with children. I believe that every child has the potential to learn, and as a tutor I work to find which way the child learns best, whether through sports or music, or other various activities. I am extremely patitent and understanding, and I am eager to help children. I strive to help children better themselves.

I believe that no two students learn alike and the most important thing is to make sure students are having fun with learning. If learning is looked at as boring or hard students will try to avoid it, when learning is fun students learn without realising the work involved. I am willing to try a new tactic with every new task and am always learning myself. As someone new to the education field I am always researching new ideas in the education field.
The 2009-2010 school year will be my third year as a substitute teacher. I believe all students have intelligence and can learn. Different students learn by using different learning styles. Some students learn by auditory learning. Many students are visual learners. They need to read books, charts, graphs, maps to comprehend. There are other students who need to learn by hands on doing of projects and activities. A good teacher will utilize all these styles of learning to facilitate learning.

My goal is to provide an environment that is a comfortable place for all students. A place where parents can be active participants in their child's education. A place where students are encouraged to think critically as well as creatively through discussion, inquiry, and reflective thinking. I believe that learning takes place when students are having fun and are engaged with hands on activities. My philosophy has been shaped by experiences within my own life, education, and career in working with people. As I enter the profession of education, my philosophy will most likely evolve somewhat as I grow and gain experiences as a teacher in the classroom. However, the foundations of my educational philosophy will continue to guide me in the way which I interact with students and teach within my classroom.
Over the past several years I have diligently worked to gain valuable knowledge ... read more

More About This Tutor...

I feel the need for tutoring is the need to simply obtain information in a form that is different from the one presented in the classroom. As a tutor, I work to break things down into their constituent pieces and explain each of these pieces in turn. This is a more time-intensive method of instruction, of course, as the breaking down of information is totally dependent on the way it must be done for it to make sense to the student. Tutoring allows this method to be used, as one-on-one, this method is just as quick as the standard schoolroom methods.
As a holder of a BS in Chemistry, I have a very strong grasp of science and mathematics, as well as a passion for the written word. A Little Bit About Me...

I have 25+ years in education primarily with grades 1-8. I am currently a Library Media Specialist. I have experience working with children one on one or in small groups. I am comfortable with technology, teaching reading, phonics and math.
I enjoy working with students and have had good success motivating students to excel. I especially empathize with students who do learn in the "cookie cutter" environment of traditional schools. Each student learns differently and can achieve success when their unique learning style is emphasized.

A Little Bit About Me...

I do not have a teaching style that I set in stone. I believe that all children learn differently and a patient tutor needs to find out what style is best suited for each child. Once that style or styles is found, your child can reach their full potential. I also firmly believe that every question is a "great" question and I encourage my students to ask, ask, ask if they do not understand.
I'm a mother of three boys and enjoy children very much. Before I had children I taught kindergarten for five years. I decided when I became a mother that I wanted to stay home and raise them. While doing so I tutored elementary school aged children at my local library, mostly in the areas of math and reading. Now that all my children are in school full time, I have been substitute teaching in various local districts. Through all of this, I have been working towards my Elementary Certification ... read more
