There, I received the highest achievement a student can receive for all 3 years. In high school, I played varsity volleyball for 3 years, was captain for 2, and received MANY honors and awards for my talent in the sport. I was an honors student, took AP Spanish, AP English Language, AP English Literature, AP Biology, and AP Calculus. I was an active member of the National Honors Society. My comments on tutoring Composition : I am a Cerftified High School English teacher.

I have a basic approach to tutoring and teaching students: - Identify what the student knows and still needs to learn to get where we need to bo. - Identify the strengths and weaknesses...and review the strengths and work at a rigoris pace to get where we know the child's skill level needs to be. - Celebrate the students successes to build thier confidence and increase their willingness to learn more and utlimately do better. _ Building a relationship with the student that we are partners in their education and we both will work to reach our set goals.

I started tutoring in 2009 through Big Brothers Big Sisters of Kentuckiana. I tutor my "Little" for an hour once a week. I help with whatever subject they need. My specialty is Language Arts, but if you need help with basic math, I can do that too. I have observed many elementary, middle school, and high school classes. I know what works best, especially since I'm going to become a high school language arts teacher in a few years.
I'm patient. I'll try and make my lessons easy to understand. I know how frustrating language arts can be, but I also know how rewarding it can be as well. I can relate very easily to high school students, because I just graduated from high school 5 years ago.

Every student, no matter race, religion, gender, age, social status, political leanings, or sexual preference, deserves equality in education. No conduct jeopardizing equality will be tolerated in a didactic or practicum setting. A successful classroom depends on the success of three relationships: the instructor must respect the student, the student must respect the instructor, and students must respect one another. Failure concerning any of these relationships results in failure in the classroom. The importance of the idea of primacy learning will be upheld in every teaching scenario. Students that are learning a new skill must be taught correctly the first time, as primacy in teaching is paramount to the student’s success. Student must know and clearly understand what is expected of them in a course for confidence and rapport to be attained in their relationship to the instructor. In ... read more

I have taken many courses over an extended period of time. In 2002 I entered the Surgical Technology program at Jefferson Technical College; I managed a 4.00 and missed only a couple of days. During the many testing phases of the program I stayed and helped get other students through the program, I was commended on my drive and determination to help other students, all while maintaining my grade average. I pulled down some of the highest scores in the programs history. This didn't go unnoticed, as shortly after graduation I was asked by the Dean of Allied Health and Surgical Technology Program Coordinator to come back and teach. I taught all of the prerequisite core classes, Anatomy and Physiology, Microbiology, Human Growth and Development and Medical Terminology. My consecutive years where involved in the Surgical Technology program as a Clinical Coordinator and Didactic instructor. I ... read more

My teaching style is very interactive, as I believe that a student learns more quickly and retains more if he/she is actively involved. Therefore I work together with the student through the assigned task, giving independent study when needed. Some example tasks may include reading aloud together, reading silently followed by opportunity for comprehension through a question-answer session, and choices of writing tasks to reflect on reading. I try to understand the student's current needs or reading/writing level and help them to excel from that point.
I have taught high school and middle school English, as well as one year of teaching at an alternative school. Additional experience would include substitute teaching, Boys and Girls Club instruction, being a Girl Scout leader, and Sunday school instruction. I have been a playwright for the last ten years, which is why I chose to get my BA in writing. Being involved in extensive reading and writing programs in and out of school has given me a deep appreciation for words. Over the course of my education, I was fortunate enough to tutor several young students struggling with reading and writing, as well as weekly creative writing workshops with elementary students.
The satisfaction that comes from working with a student, one on one, who is struggling, and seeing them change from angry and insecure to confident and proud is immense. I haven't found it anywhere else. As a teacher, my initial goal is to discover how to facilitate the individual learning styles of my students. I strive to instill a confidence that will lead to a willing and open mind conducive to further learning.
