My approach to teaching is highly individualized and targeted to meet a student's specific needs. I started teaching professionally in Tampa, Florida in 1992. I continued to teach in the Florida Public Schools until 1999 before I returned to school to earn my Master's. Now, I teach English to Adults at Wallace Community College, which I have been doing since 2003. I love what I do. When I got my Master's in 2005, I was able to conduct classroom research which enabled me to reach a deeper level in the principles of both linguistics and the science of learning. It is not good enough to blindly teach everyday, without proving you are making progress within the skills you are teaching. Once data is disaggregated to show which skills need the most frequent and intense focus, the skill is taught, and then tested again. The next step is determined by the result of the post test; either the skill is re-taught or enrichments are given. I also believe heavily in the use of group work and student teaching/ interaction.
