I enjoy working with children and get a kick from seeing a discovery or understanding in a students eyes. I've had the opportunity to collect numerous bio. samples for hands on experience. I have also taken workshops in the workings of google earth as a teaching tool along with mapping and watershed principles.I feel I have benn successful in elightening many student's lives.
I started teaching in 1970 as a K-8 substitute, continuing until being hired by a private school in 1975. I then taught full time in East LA. I enjoy helping students succeed in math. I talk to the student to find out what the student's strengths and weaknesses are. Then I try to relate what they are learning to a skill they have already mastered. I believe students need to know the practical applications for what they are learning. Many of the practical applications come from my financial and woodworking background. I want students to understand the process for solving problems before using and relying on a calculator and to be able to tell if their answer is reasonable. To make math more fun, I like to incorporate their interests into the math they are learning when possible.

I am very flexible with my communication style, and can easily and quickly assess and tailor my teaching style with whomever I am teaching. I like thinking of sharing knowledge as a mutual endeavor, and less like a one way street.
