I am a 2014 graduate of Marymount University where I received a Masters in Special Education. I have teaching experience at both the elementary and middle school levels. In middle school, I focused on teaching 7th grade Math, but am comfortable in Language Arts as well. Along with teaching, I have been a nanny for many years and therefore have experience with kids beyond the classroom.
I believe each person is unique and different. Therefore, my teaching style is individualized depending on the student and their needs. I do however believe in a hands-on, interactive approaches in order to keep students engaged and interested in learning.

Let's Get America's Children Reading Again!!

I believe in tutoring so that the child receives feedback and fully understands his/her own limitations and how to overcome obstacles in class. Many children lack positivity in the methodology! I also believe that using art instruction helps children to learn in a more creative manner.
I have over of 30 years of progressive experience in tutoring young children in the elementary years of education in all subject matter areas. My specialty is literacy and reading, but I am also adept in teaching all of the math curricula as well. I also firmly believe that teaching organizational skills and proper research methodologies are very important for the classroom today--and every child needs these skills in order to excel in the classroom and survive. I am also a qualified art teacher in the NOVA area.

I believe that all students can learn and can enjoy learning. I myself plan to continue my education throughout my life. I want to impact my students' lives both in and out of the classroom.

Every child can learn and children learn at different levels. A teaching style must change to meet the needs of the child because what may work for one child may not work for another. I am patient and kind with students while still being firm when teaching students. I use positive reinforcement to achieve goals. I like to form a good relationship with the students because students do their best work when they are trying to please others.
When I first attended college I studied elementary education. I put my education on hold to stay at home and raise my children. During that time I was a compulsive volunteer with different support groups within the school system. I decided to complete my education as my children got older and received my bachelors degree and continued to take classes so that I am now able to sit for my CPA and I have also completed the necessary undergraduate ... read more

Not every method works for every child; with one exception, patience. I demonstrate and exemplify patience. If a child feels as though they are in an atmosphere where they are safe, free of ridicule and bias, then they are willing to perform. This process can be a give take scenario however. So, some flexibility is required as well, but eventually the student will become more comfortable with themselves and confident in what they are capable of.
With all of my experience and education, I have had the opportunity to work with all facets of children; from those who require a great deal of help, to those who might just need a little more challenge then what their work was providing them. Having worked with large and diverse groups of children I have assisted in English, math, science, and social studies from grade school to high school. I am very dedicated and passionate about what ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I am a firm believer that all students can achieve academic success but each in their own way. Having taught students with a range of learning difficulties, I am very much aware that each student has thier own learning style and therefore their own way of achieving. More About This Tutor...

I began tutoring for a company called ClubZ back in January of 2008. This was a Title I program in Frederick County, and only a Title I school could participate. I had three students; a student in kindergarten needing reading assistance; a student in third grade needing math assistance, and a student in fourth grade needing reading comprehension assistance. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Business Education, although I chose not to work in the classroom as a full-time teacher. My career working with students includes being employed with Frederick County Public Schools as an assistant to a student with disabilities. When that student moved to another school, I worked with the Board of Education in their Human Resources Department. (please view my resume) Even though I love working in an administrative capacity in an office environment, nothing compares to the satisfaction I get ... read more

I have a Bachelors Degree in General Studies from the University of Maryland which includes two concentrations: Second Language Spanish, and Human Development. I have tutored three individuals over the past five years. The first was a 3rd grader in reading and comprehension. The second student was a tenth grader in grammar and composition. And more recently, I tutored a seventh grader in second language Spanish. I have gotten good results with my students. I have been substitute teaching at Frederick County Public Schools this past semester. For two years, I taught high school Spanish in a private school.
I love seeing a student finally grasp something that has been difficult in the past. All students are different, and have different learning styles. Some are visual learners, some audio learners. Some learn by doing. I tailor my teaching to the student's specific needs. ... read more

I love teaching and interacting with students of all ages and ability levels. I believe that each person is unique and receives information in a unique way. Tutoring should be a joint process of discovering a student's learning style and tailoring information so that the student is able to learn and thrive. In my opinion, teaching should focus on the individual strengths of the learner and not just their challenges. The student should learn to use their strengths to not only overcome their challenges, but also to fall in love with learning and gain self confidence.
As a holder of a Bachelor's in Social Work, I have a great deal of experience mentoring and tutoring students of various ages and abilities.
